About the Author
Stanford E. Rubin, professor emeritus, was a professor and coordinator of the Doctor of Rehabilitation Program at the Rehabilitation Institute at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale from 1980 to 2005. Previously, he worked as a senior research scientist at the Arkansas Rehabilitation Research and Training Center and as a counselor at Wright State University. Dr. Rubin has worked in the fi eld of rehabilitation for the past 38 years and has over 100 professional publications. In addition to Foundations of the Vocational Rehabilitation Process, Dr. Rubin has coauthored Case Management and Rehabilitation Counseling (Roessler & Rubin, 1982, 1992, 1998, 2006) and Facilitative Management in Rehabilitation Counseling: A Casebook (Bozarth & Rubin, 1972), as well as coedited Contemporary Challenges to the Rehabilitation Counseling Profession (Rubin & Rubin, 1988). He has also authored several widely used, comprehensive in-service training packages for practicing rehabilitation counselors. Dr. Rubin has served as the president of the American Rehabilitation Counseling Association (1982 1983), as a commissioner on the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certifi cation (1980 1986), as a board member of the Foundation for Rehabilitation Education and Research (1995 2000), as the editor of two special issues of professional journals, and on the editorial boards of the Journal of Applied Rehabilitation Counseling and Rehabilitation Education.


Richard T. Roessler is a university professor in the Rehabilitation, Human Resources, and Communication Disorders Department in the College of Education and Health Professions at the University of Arkansas. He has served as a senior research scientist at the Arkansas Research and Training Center in Vocational Rehabilitation and as coordinator of the rehabilitation education program. He has authored or coauthored over 150 journal articles, book chapters, and monographs, as well as four textbooks. Foundations of the Vocational Rehabilitation Process and Case Management and Rehabilitation Counseling (4th ed.) are widely used in graduate education. He coauthored the fi rst two Richard J. Baker Memorial Monographs published by the Vocational Evaluation and Work Adjustment Association.

About the Author
Fabián A. Samaniego earned his B.A. degree at New Mexico State University and completed his graduate work at the University of Iowa. He taught four years at Utah State University before going to the University of California at Davis, where he served as coordinator of the first-year Spanish program and supervisor of teaching assistants for 24 years. He also served as assistant director of several Foreign Language Competency projects for the Los Angeles and San Francisco Unified School Districts, and for the Santa Clara and Sacramento County Offices of Education. In addition, he served on the steering committee of the California Foreign Language Teacher Preparation Project and on the California Foreign Language Project Policy Board. He is frequently asked to conduct in-service workshops for schools and universities across the country. Samaniego's first-year college text, DÍMELO TÚ!, is in its sixth edition, and his intermediate text, MUNDO 21, recently published in its fourth edition. He is a co-author of LANGUAGE AND CULTURE IN LEARNING: TEACHING SPANISH TO NATIVE SPEAKERS OF SPANISH and of DIME!, a seven-book school series that includes a two-year native Spanish speaker's program: Tu mundo and Nuestro mundo.

Francisco Rodriguez Nogales is an Associate Professor of Spanish in the School of Modern Languages at Santa Barbara City College. He is a specialist in the use of technology in foreign-language teaching and online instruction--his teaching load has been 100 percent online for the past five years. He also has developed several Spanish assessment and placement tools. Nogales was born in Pedrera (Seville), Spain. He completed his bachelor of arts at the Universidad Pontificia Comillas in Madrid, his master's at San Francisco State University, and his Ph.D. at the University of California at Davis.

This book is mostly useful, but sometimes it is very frustrating when you are doing the exercises because some of them ask you questions about a text and the text cannot answer it. The questions are answerable for the most part, but those few that aren't make homework more annoying than it has to be. It also does not include answers to the practice questions in the grammar sections.

Don't worry about the price, you'll be glad you bought it!

This book is absolutely wonderful...so much so, it deserves a kiss before I go to bed each night! Seriously, though, this book is well organized, chock-full of information, and can be digested at a rapid pace if you find yourself getting really into it (which is very likely to happen). As one can guess, it starts off with basic info about various vocal ranges. Then, it gets you started on the basics behind note-for-note harmonization for voice, utilizing primary triads only at first, then including secondary triads, diatonic sevenths, and chromatic chords as you desire. It features a chapter on writing material for introductions, endings and interludes, and a very useful chapter on smooth vocal modulations. It also builds up your vocal arranging toolbox by taking you from two-part to four-part arranging, including the various techniques (figuration, ostinato, imitation, vocal background) that you can use with each technique.

It covers a little bit of barbershop technique, and has an entire chapter on jazz vocal harmony, where it discusses the uses of upper extension tones, substitutions, and how to make the most of these. Throw in material dealing with other contemporary styles (pop, rock, country), a chapter on getting arrangements published, and chapters concerning the role of instrumental accompaniment - and you're looking at the holy grail of choral arranging. Whether you want to arrange hymns, showtunes, jazz or pop/rock, this book will be an invaluable aid! It's so well-explained, in fact, that you'll immediately be able to HEAR the logic and techniques behind vocal arrangements that once sounded complex.

Plus, each chapter gives you exercises at the end so you can immediately put theory to practice...and there's no additional workbook to buy - everything you need is included in TWO appendices in the back. One appendix has melodies only (usually of a simple folk/hymnal nature), which are to be used in the assignments. The other appendix has some complete vocal arrangements, to be used for analysis while reading certain chapters.

I hate to be long-winded here, but since this Amazon doesn't have the 'Search Inside' feature with this book, I figured potential buyers may want to know the bounty of information contained in this book before they drop $70-100 on it.

Don't spend half a year eyeballing this book like I did, buy it now!

Beware! This is a paperback edition

The content of the book is excellent. The paperback format is attrocious.

The cover on most decent paperbacks contains a crease front and back near the binding to assist in opening. This does not. No matter how carefully you try, when you open the book the cover cracks unevenly. The book won't stay open so it is difficult to play the examples given. I am not sure the book will hold together by the time it takes to complete it. This binding is something you might expect on a cheap $1 paperback not one that costs a $100.

Whoever is responsible for this at Prentice-Hall ought to be drawn and quartered.

Previously Waiting for Revenge

I love this book, over the years I've read it again and again, you know when sometimes you find a book that's just it, it's one of my go to books if I don't know what I fancy reading then I have my favourites which I turn to.

It's the story of a happily married couple Mandy and Mike who go round to a friends one night and she catches him having sex with his friends slutty girlfriend Lana, she's struggling since they have two children Ben and Rachel, can she throw away what's been a happy marriage with a great guy she loves, but can she get over the fact that he's cheated on her and continues to cheat on her, how can she continue to live with someone who would do that to her. On top of this, the day after the cheating she meets Adam a fantastic guy who makes her feel like there could be life after divorce, Adam makes no secret of the fact that he's been watching her run past his house and that he's very interested in her so, should she stay married, confront Mike and get a divorce or get revenge....

My Review:
Usually I hate to read books that involve an unhappy marriage, but something about the description of this story drew me in and I am so glad that it did. I really loved this book. Honestly, I did not put it down from the time I started it until I turned the last page. I just couldn't see how this was all going to turn out for everyone especially knowing that Adam was hiding something and not knowing what exactly it was although I had a pretty good idea.

This book starts on Thanksgiving day with Mandy out walking. She's just walked in on her husband, Mike, and friend having sex on top of a car in the garage and is completely shocked, completely angry, and at a total loss of how to react now. On her walk, she meets Adam. He's been watching her for a couple of months while she walks and has finally gotten brave enough to introduce himself.

The book covers the next month of these people's lives. Mandy quickly decides that her marriage is over, but she's not going to act on that until after Christmas. Mike and Mandy have two kids, ages 10 and 12 and she doesn't want to ruin their holiday with talk of a divorce. In that time, they stay living in the same house and are seeing a marriage counselor (who hits on Mandy when Mike's not around), but she's sleeping in a separate bed. She's also getting MUCH closer to Adam during that time period.

Reading this book was a lot like watching a car wreck. Mandy is completely blown away by Mike's betrayal. They've been married for 13 years and have had a good marriage. They even had sex the morning of his betrayal. She waffles between anger and wanting to give merit to those happy 13 years, but how could she ever trust him again. As a married woman, it's hard to watch her with this struggle. As simply a woman, it's even harder to see her even think about giving him a second chance. It's a tough book and very emotional, but it is so good! It's extremely well-written. You can't help but feel for all of these characters....yes, there were even moments when I felt bad for the jerk, Mike. It's a bad situation and the author shows the myriad of emotions that go with that. BUT even more importantly, she never made it a depressing book. You are caught up in the drama of it all, but never once do you feel like Mandy isn't going to overcome it all...you just are never quite sure HOW she's going to do that.

It was really really good and I truly loved the way that it ended. This book may not be one that I would normally pick up, but I'm so glad that I did today. This is the kind of book that strikes a deep emotional chord and sticks with me for a few days. I love that kind of book!

Good content, bad edition

I'm giving this book two stars not for the content itself but for the Kindle edition in particular.

The text contains multiple errors such as repeated words, missing formulas, uncapitalized sentences and tables that don't fit the Kindle screen.

As for the content, Mr. Tesla was a man really ahead of its time, and its very interesting to see in his own words his predictions about the future development of electrical and wireless technology, physics and the general understanding of the principles of nature.

I apologize for any grammatical error in this review, English is not my primary language but I try to be as clear as possible.

but wasn't what I expected. I did enjoy reading Tesla's letters but I was expecting all the correspondence from Catherine Johnson as well. The letters about Edison were fun to read. Recommend for the hardcore Tesla fan.

Really interesting read.

I haven't completed this book yet, but from what I have read so far it is quite interesting. Reading the actual letters that Nikola Tesla wrote is a mind blowing experience. I believe that even if you are not familial with his work you can enjoy reading this. Nothing much left to say since it is a pretty self explanatory.

Creme de creme of ECG criteria

I have ready many ECG books. I am a Cardio Tech student. Towards the tail end of the ECG course, I needed a book that clearly listed the criteria. This book does this job well.

Additionally, the author highlights the areas where why it's particularly important to make an accurate interpretation as the treatment would totally differ. An example is the treatment of MAT vs treatment of other Tachycardia.

The author has also done a good job in explaining the practical real life rules and when to not waste time. An example of such is the wide QRS rhythms where there author suggests suspect VT and most important if patient is hemodynamically unstable --> cardiovert. Only if patient is hemodynamically stable, then bother to do a detailed analysis to see whether the wide QRS is dues to aberrant beats. I am sure I will find these practical tips useful in the field.

Although in my job, I will most likely be doing ECG's, it's good that the author has given some practical tips on what the cardiologist will most likely be doing. Being by the side of the cardiologist, this should help me to understand what's going on. An example of this is during the tachycardia such as due to A. Flutter, performing carotid massage, and other procedure should lower the rate to identify the flutter from SVT.

All in all, I found this book to be different from most ECG books in the sense that it is like a ready reckoner of ECG interpretations, with lots of practical advise, and tips in a concise manner.

I monitor nuclear stress test and this book has been invaluable to me. I carry it in my pocket during my day and refer to it repeatedly throughout my day. This is such a wonderful compact resource that I have suggested my fellow co-workers buy their own copy. My copy is already dog-eared from all the use. So glad I bought this book.

It is fantastic to discover Italy reneissance and Raphael`s passions

This book uncovers the fantastic world of the Italian Renaissance and of the Raphael`s passions. It is a virtual visit of Perugia and Florence with magnificent images of the landscape and of the marvelous towns of Italy. The scene of the wedding party gives us a vivid flash of the real life in Italy in the Renaissance period.
Starting the story with the massacre, taking place during the day of the celebration of the marriage it is an impressive construction of the plot.
A family vengeance it is at the center of the story which involves also the Borgia, the Medici and Pope Giulio II

Choose Carefully What You Really Care About

Much of the writing in THE SUBTLE ART OF NOT GIVING is tongue-in-cheek. Surprisingly, however, there is a lot in this book that is SERIOUS. I know, I know, with a title like that, it's hard to believe, but it's true. Mark Manson actually makes quite a few substantive, helpful points.

Mark makes it clear that he's NOT saying you should not care about anything. Not at all. What he is saying is that you should pick carefully WHICH things you care about: "This book will help you think a little bit more clearly about what you’re choosing to find important in life and what you’re choosing to find unimportant." He's not suggesting we should be indifferent; rather, carefully deciding where to place our concern.

How you pick your top concerns has practical consequences. Mark gives a real-world example about a cranky person in the check-out line at the market. The elderly customer is making a big fuss about some minor thing. Why? Because they don't have anything else to occupy their time. If you don't have anything substantive to occupy your time, then it's trivial stuff that bothers you: "Your ex-boyfriend’s new Facebook picture, how quickly the batteries die in the TV remote, missing out on yet another two-for-one sale on hand sanitizer—chances are you don’t have much going on in your life..."

Mark suggests just picking a few big things--values and people that reflect your values: "What I’m talking about here is essentially learning how to focus and prioritize your thoughts effectively—how to pick and choose what matters to you and what does not matter to you based on finely honed personal values."

Much of life is about solving problems. They are inevitable, and we shouldn't pretend that we can make them go away. The author has no kind words for those embracing victimhood: "People deny and blame others for their problems for the simple reason that it’s easy and feels good, while solving problems is hard and often feels bad."

On a serious note, the author relates a horrific experience from his youth, when a drunken friend took a dare, jumped into a lake and drowned. "The most transformational moment of my life occurred when I was nineteen years old." This tragedy led to a determination to change the direction of his life, and figure out what is most important: "Oddly, it was someone else’s death that gave me permission to finally live. And perhaps the worst moment of my life was also the most transformational."

The last part of the book has a serious tone--quite different in tone than the first part of the book. This part of the book is more philosophical. The author refers often to a book, "The Denial of Death," (which became a Pulitzer Prize winner.) In serious, heartfelt chapters, the author reflects on human existence, and our search for meaning in life.

All in all, I found THE SUBTLE ART to be a fascinating read. The author writes well, and the book is easy to follow. Don't be fooled by the title, however, a lot of this book is very serious.

A surprisingly serious book - in a good way

There are a dozen of topics Mark goes through in this book. Some of the main themes are these:

(1) Choosing what to care about; focusing on the things/problems that are actually meaningful/important (= "giving a f*** about the right things")
(2) Learning to be fine with some negative things; always aiming for positivity isn't practical, and is stressful in itself
(3) Taking responsibility of your own life; it's good for your self-esteem not to keep blaming the circumstances for your problems
(4) Understanding the importance of honesty and boundaries, especially in relationships
(5) Identity; it might a good idea not to commit strongly to any special identity such as "an undiscovered genius", because then any challenges will make you fear the potential loss of that identity you've clinged to
(6) Motivation; how to improve it by accepting failure and taking action
(7) Death; how learning to be more comfortable with one's own mortality can make it easier to live

The first 20% of this book were a little bit boring to read, but after that, the experience was very absorbing. Just like Manson's previous book (Models), I will give this one five stars.

(BTW this book wasn't as humorous as I expected. It was much more a serious than a funny book to read. The final chapters, discussing the acceptance of death, made me actually a little bit tense and distressed.)

This book is scary

This is one of the best books I have ever read. The information that is in the book is to scary and at the same way helpful. In the middle of reading this book I felt like, then what is the point on living? Why just don't die if we are going to do it anyways. I started to feel strange inside of me. I was scared because everything he writes about Is true. We all try to hard on impressing people. Try hard to make big goals and try to achieve them. But in the end we do it not for ourselfs we do it for the attention we will get in the result for that. We are not special, but in the same time we are. We are all unique bit not more special than the others. We live our life trying to be "successful" and convince ourself that it is because we want it for us. But in some cases we are not. We (and when I mean "we" I mean myself) try so much to achieve goals working hard everyday trying to come closer to that goal. But when I readed this book my eyes opened. I was wrong. I was not doing it for myself. I was doing it to prove others I am worth of their attention. Because I wanted to feel special because yeah. I always said to myself "nobody work hard enough for success so I am special I work harder than the others and that is why i deserve it more". I was every day working hard, I did not want to accept it but when I readed this book it really hurted me. I felt like he was 100% seeing through me. I felt like my life was pointless. All I did, the goals I was pursuing was only to make other think in the future. "Wow he is special. He worked hard to obtaining he's goals. He is inspiring". I wanted to show the people that made me feel bad about myself see me in the future and look up on me and say to themselves. "Well I think I am the real loser". But in this book I began to think. I was always looking at other people judging them about being at their 30-40 having a s***ty job, family, complaining about everyone and everything etc. Or the ones on my ages always working hard, making fools of themselves trying to get the attention of others. Or people screaming at others just to feel like they are better than the other person. I always felt sorry about them. When reading this book I realised I am exactly at them. We live our whole life trying to be somebody. When the real thing we should do is try to be the person we want to be. But it is not easy. The society always look up to successes and winners but never at the ones that are not that "successful" but are happy. And that make us all feel like we are not enough. Which we think is true. We give fu*ks about so many things that are not really important and that does not mean anything at all. The fact that we are going to die is terrifying. Not because we don't know what comes next, it's because, we thing yeah if we all will die then what is the point of trying? That's the reason this book is good it does not just make you unsure about all your beliefs. It also makes you realise that it does not mather at all if you are going to die. The real problem is what you should care about while you are alive. The old lady crossing the road in the pace of a turtle. Or the really fact that we are alive and are able to choose what we want to care about.

Why did i writte a so long post? Well because if this can help somebody in my situation it will be nice. And the other reason was for myself. Because even if I say I don't care I actually care about what others think about me, and even if you don't know me in person. Knowing someone readed this and got the inspiration to read the book then it's enough for me. To feel like I did something good.

And the third reason is because I liked the super hero "Disappointed Panda". He is cool and I would like a hero like that. Instead of the false super heroes that lies to others just to get liked by them.

So this is an executive book. It gives a new way to look at things. I really recomend it for the people that are tired of this world and the humans on it, and even worst that tries way to hard to imprese those humans you hate, because you were told that is the right way to fulfill yourself. "You should do like the rest",they said. It does not help in the long run. It have never and will never!
