Troubleshooting Section was pathetic

This book purports to cover avionic systems, Installation, and troubleshooting. The "systems" section does a good job of covering the systems it does cover, communications and some navigation systems, and that's about all it does do. It does not cover anything related to the fuel, power, airdata, flight control or other systems of an aircraft that are also part of the "avionic" systems. It is obvious that the author has never worked as an avionics technician and views the "systems" of an aircraft from the point of view of a small aircraft pilot. The Installation section was severely lacking and the one-page "troubleshooting" section was a complete waste of paper as it contained none of the methodolgy used to isolate system problems in today's complex corporate and commercial aircraft. The book should be renamed to more accurately portray what it actually covers; "Comm/Nav systems." The current title is misleading and I was very disappointed with this book, considering its purchase price.

Great content, dozens of typos

This is a great primer if you are a student of or have general interest in airplane avionics. I throughly enjoyed learning about the technologies behind DME, VOR, Comms, GPS, etc. The many, many typos throughout the book lead me to believe this is a self-published book and the author didn't want to pay for a copy editor. If you can get beyond the errors (primarily gramatical), this is well worth a read.

Not as adversised or useful as a practical manual

I wanted a book that would help me understand how to install simple radios and matching VOR heads, intercoms, and audio panels. Two way radios have been around since the 1930's and audio panels since the 1960's so the installation technology is not that complicated at a fundamental level. You just have to have the right information. I wanted to learn how to read the pin diagrams and understand the terms used between manufacturers for the connections. How is the 3 wire microphone jack connected to the radio and what is the purpose and function of the three wires on the jack? The book did nothing to assist me in understanding the above. I was planning to make the simplest installation of a stand alone radio with the MIC and phone jacks and matching VOR indicator. I could not even perform that task after reading this book. The book discussed the most sophisticated, modern day equipment and large jet aircraft applications that would be of no use to a home builder or A&P mechanic working on small aircraft. The book did not even have a chapter on audio panels. To advertise as a practical, how to book is totally misleading. It is like so many of the so called aviation "how to" books in that it is an overview like the A&P textbooks. Publishing and advertising a "how to" book with a lot of fancy, glossy pictures and coverage of radar and the latest integrated systems with no basic or practical information addressing the simplest of installations is a waste of paper.

Solid, Clear-Cut Reference Text

I am not a person who is partial to text books, but Bill's book is a cut above most other texts I've used in the past. Plenty of information is provided in successive pieces, with very little to no unnecessary padding. There are examples following each new concept that not only challenge the student to apply what they have learned, but restate the concept in a way that is useful in a practical application rather than redundant. Reworking these examples is particularly advantageous to the student in a distance-learning environment. The book draws a lot on basic electricity concepts, but the appendix in the back (constructed like an additional chapter more than anything) provides explanations of most additional material. Overall an extremely practical reference.

Great for Introduction to Digital Electronics

I purchased this book for an online class at community college. The class is actually "taught" by the writer of this textbook, which i thought was pretty cool. Although i had access to the author of the textbook, i did not need to utilize his knowledge because the text is written so well. I was able to basically teach myself and do very well in the class with this textbook and the included software. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to know about digital electronics, whether they want to teach themselves or for a class (that is not to say you should purchase this instead of the text required for a class).

Great way to teach yourself the basics and more!

I am currently enrolled in an online course, who is taught by the author of the book. I have taken this class before and found it to be queit difficult to really get a grasp on some of the text while going through the class. In highschool it was very hands on and the teacher was right there with you every step of the way. I took this at a different college where the professor was very smart and knowledgable yet he did not have a sucessful pass rate because he couldnt communicate well with the students and the books he required were vary hard to understand. Signing up for this course online made me nervous because of my past expierence with this class (it was in an actual classroom, so you can imagine my worries with it being online and not interacting in a classroom setting) - this is the last course i need to complete my AAS. Talking with Professor Kleitz, he made it clear that putting in the time and effort, weekly, that you should be able to teach yourself with this book and by solving the problems throughout the chapters - boy was he right. I've gone through the first chapter and i feel that i've already learned and taught myself more than i could have with any other book i've used. I would recommend this book to anyone interesting in persuing a field in electronics, design, manufacturing, computers, etc. - eppspecially if you are at a loss for classroom time. I work a full time job and i believe i will be able to excell in this class and finish up my degree thanks to the book and the ability to teach myself throughout his writings. Great job at writing the book!

This book does a good job of sharing more of his knowledge on the ...

I worked with Tilo Linz in my capacity as the Chair of the ISTQB Foundation Extension Agile Tester Working Group. He clearly knows a lot about this topic, some of which he shared in the portion of the Agile Foundation Extension syllabus that he co-wrote.

This book does a good job of sharing more of his knowledge on the topic. I particularly like the use of a running case study, the eHome project, to illustrate concepts. The thorough coverage of unit and integration testing is excellent, particularly the detailed discussion of integration testing, a test level which is often under-utilized. Concise but complete code samples with ample explanation make these concepts very clear, unlike the enigmatic and free-floating code samples found in some books.

This book would be a good complement to Cripsin and Gregory's book on agile testing. It fills a lot of the gaps that exist in that book in terms of technical and managerial details.

My only quibble about this book--and this is why I gave it a 4 not a 5--is that the rear cover contains a claim that it is a prep book for the Agile Foundation Extension exam. I did read it as part of preparing for that exam. (Yes, even us authors of the syllabus have to take the ISTQB exams.) It covers a lot of topics that aren't in the syllabus and thus aren't on that exam, which is fine: more information is always good. However, it doesn't adequately cover some topics that are on the syllabus and thus the exam, such as the testing pyramid, the testing quadrants, and Acceptance Test Driven Development. This book would be a useful complement to a two-day training course as part of preparing for the exam and learning the important topics of agile testing, but as a stand-alone resource for exam preparation it isn't enough.

Beyond that nit, a good book. If you don't care about the ISTQB Agile Foundation Extension exam, or if you plan to prepare for the exam using other resources, this is certainly worth reading.

Travel guides on a reader is much harder to manage than having a paperback. I couldn't go between pages and couldn't refer back to the map as I frequently have to in order to get a visual on location and distance. I found the hotel recommendations to be either too low end or too high end. Tripadvisor on line was much better at giving information, as they were in selecting guides and tours.

A rich blend of regional history and travel planning tips for those going to Morocco. The book's organization allows its readers to jump in anywhere and soak up the plentiful details without being locked into a preconceived narrative. Everything seems to be here you'd need except instructions for non-Moslem women on how to wear a head scarf. No need to include that in the book, though, as Googling "hajib" will find you numerous sites with illustrated directions.

I find MOST of Lonely Planet Guides unhelpful and disjointed and loaded with "treks', unexplained and verbose in nature. But this one is the exception. Even though I am not a trekker, I will be taking some short treks because of the organization of this author who presents the hikes properly, detailing shorter treks and giving the statistics, length, etc. of each. The other LP guides just have long rambling jaunts on treks; this author is awesome! I love how he organized the regions well too and how he described adventures for all types of tourists and the architectural details of the hotels. I love this guy so my first five star review for Lonely Planet!
