Quality over Quantity

This is a thoughtful, modern approach that concisely guides students through traditional algorithms. The author does a great job of presenting and explaining each algorithm. This book does not have a lot of clutter that distracts from the important concepts. The information is carefully selected to help students focus on learning the crux of each algorithm and leaves the reference material to the internet, where it is abundant. This approach is preferable to other algorithm classes where students are burdened with huge algorithm text books while only using a small percentage of the pages in them.

Analysis and Design of Algorithms provides a thorough coverage of the most important algorithms used in computer science. The author makes a trade-off between keeping the text short (and readable) at the expense of not getting into the intricacies of implementation. It's an enjoyable read, and probably the only Algorithms book you can read cover to cover in one sitting. That being said, the book provides the material necessary in a graduate level algorithms course, and the exercises test you on your understanding of the text. It provides a great alternative to the overtly verbose algorithms books out there, without you feeling that you are missing out on knowledge.
